The Queensland Outback is a vast and remote region extending west from the Great Dividing Range to the Northern Territory and South Australian borders. Several main highways cross through this area and major towns include Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Julia Creek, Hughenden, Winton, Longreach, Charleville, Roma, St George, Goondiwindi, Cunnamulla and Birdsville as well as many smaller settlements. Parts of the Outback are spectacular and quite beautiful. Channel Country occupies the south west of this region with the Diamantina, Georgina and Hamilton Rivers usually dry except after the Wet Season when floodwaters extend into SA’s Lake Eyre.
